Sure it looks pretty, but why do we do this?
Mehendi is a ceremony in which the bride and groom are decorated with a henna. Traditionally only for the bride, however nowadays both bride and groom receive it often. Intricate patterns with lots of symbolism are made on the happy couples hands. A fun fact is that almost always the name of the groom is hidden in the mehendi of the bride and vice versa. After the wedding the bride and groom have to find their name in eachother mehendi, this is done in order to help breaking the ice after getting married.
Mehendi is all about the depth of the color of the decoration of your partner, this symbolizes the happiness and love shared in the marriage. Mostly the close family and friends of the bride and groom get some mehendi done as well and it is a nice happy gathering that is a lot of fun but requires a bit of patience, as the decorations take time to be applied, and to dry. Make sure to get cozy and enjoy the happening.
